Chapel  Trip Report

(Faith & Victory : June 2002)

Dear saints: Greetings to each one in the name of our Saviour, Jesus Christ. I can say as men of old, surely God "hath done all things well." God's ways are not always understood but I am thankful to have the assurance that His ways are best. I had planned to be gone to Malawi and Mozambique for three weeks. Unforeseen circumstances at home precipitated my returning much earlier than I had planned. The few days that I spent in Msikita Village were very profitable and beneficial.

I had a burden to set in order the building of a much needed chapel. While I was gone, I was able to purchase land, contract a builder, order supplies, and transport concrete to the village. The Lord enabled us to accomplish much in just a few days. Construction was to begin the day after I left and it will take approximately four months to complete the chapel. On behalf of the saints in Malawi, I want to thank each one who sacrificed and helped financially to support this endeavor. At this time, the African Missionary (Building) Fund has a deficit of over $3,000.

I enjoyed the time I was able to spend with the saints. I found the saints and ministers encouraged in the Lord. I solicit your prayers for the work of God in Africa. My purpose has been as Bro. Ostis Wilson said before he went to Nigeria many years ago, "I am not going to Westernize the Africans but to take the gospel of Christ to them." After every trip to Africa I am made aware afresh of the power of the simple gospel of Jesus Christ. There is no doctrine or creed of man that can bring about the transforming change in mankind like the pure, simple gospel of our Lord. It is the unadulterated preaching of the Word of God that ministers to bring about true deliverance and righteousness in the heart of man.

Although I was disappointed that my trip was shortened, I rest in the knowledge that God had a purpose. Thank you for all of your prayers and support. May God continue to lead and bless us each one in Jesus' name,

-Bro. Michael Smith
