Pastor B. U. Etuk Departs This Life |

S. E. State, Nigeria (April 5)-Dear Bro. Pruitt, greetings in the
Lord's name-Emanuel: I have today sent telegram to you reporting the
death of our superintendent of missions, Pastor B. U. Etuk, on April
3 at his hometown-Asana. . . . God called him Home to reap the fruit
of his labors. We held funeral and burial services yesterday
attended by very many. . . . Pastors J. U. Etuk, M. U. Ekpo, and B.
E. Udoka and Evang. S. U. Udo took part in the services and the
ministers escorted the corpse to the grave in front of his
residence.
He lived for 50 years. He established the church in Nigeria in 1961
and ministered therein for ten years and three months. He had eight
children-six sons and two daughters, and they are very young. . . .
It is hoped that arrangements will be made to care for the bereaved
family. This important man is gone, and he has vacated a place hard
to be filled. Pray with us that God would call and qualify one to
fill the gap. . . .
Bro. George Hammond is praying to come to our midst. . . I am making
arrangements for his stay. . . .I hope to make the allowances to the
gospel workers on Saturday with the draft of March 16, and the
allowance slip will be mailed to you as in former months.

(Editor's note: On April 8 we were saddened with a telegram from
Bro. Umanah of the passing of Pastor B. U. Etuk, the native minister
who established the first Church of God mission in Nigeria more than
ten years ago. Now there are 20 mission stations and about 30 native
gospel workers in that country. A few years ago Bro. Etuk suffered a
stroke, from which he never fully recovered. Our sympathy and
prayers go out for the bereaved family and the Nigerian church in
their loss, but they need not sorrow as those who have no hope. They
can meet him again in the realms of Glory. Bro. David Madden, Bro.
and Sis. Ostis Wilson, and Bro. and Sis. Cecil Carver had labored
with Bro. Etuk in the Nigerian mission field.) |
